flora & fauna {a forest school}

Flora and Fauna digging listing image

We believe in integrating the learning environment with a reverence for nature. The ethos of the forest school facilitates for the children a deep relationship with themselves while enabling for a sensibility to the Earth, its elemental beings, and the innate understanding of the flora and fauna that invites them to be the stewards they will become for their world.

Daily learning is child-directed and occurs through play and activities in nature with art, dance, reading, writing, songs, mathematics, exploration, instruments and rhythm. Select from programs that take place on weekdays, midday or afternoon, outdoors on the grounds of Sylvester Manor. Appropriate clothing and protection from elements is required.

About the teacher: Hannah Gray has a master’s degree in childhood education with dual certification in teaching English and as a forest school educator. Gray believes that children should learn in the spirit of diversity, understanding, and kindness while being free to cultivate wonder and reflect in the quiet heart of nature.
