Engage. Explore. Empower. The Shelter Island Union Free School District is open to all students in grades Pre-K to 12 residing in the Town of Shelter Island. With an enrollment of 205 students housed within one building, the school has an average class size of 16 with a student–teacher ratio of 8:1. Certified by the New York State Board of Regents, the school employs 35 professional staff, five teaching assistants and aides, a guidance counselor, school nurse, school psychologist, and school social worker. Students are encouraged to cherish our small island community while applying and expanding their learning about and understanding of, and engagement with the wider world.
