The Friends of the Library is a nonprofit organization that raises funds to support the Shelter Island Public Library. The Friends sponsors fun events like the annual Turkey Plunge that has donors run into icy waters off Crescent Beach in a family-friendly pledge drive that takes place the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend. A 501(c)(3) organization, the Friends also sponsors an annual Tent Week that brings library activties and events out-of-doors to the shelter of a tent on the library lawn. And, donors can ‘Buy a Brick’ to add an engraved message of support to the library’s Reading Patio.
