The Senior Citizens Foundation of Shelter Island, Inc., a 501(c)(3) charitable organization established in the late 1990s, considers the Island's resident older population a terrific resource of experience and expertise. Our mission is to present an independent voice on Shelter Island to promote and help maintain and improve the quality of life for its older adults.
Shelter Island Action Alliance was created in response to the COVID-19 shutdown as a way to keep our local restaurants afloat while supplying free meals to medical staff on the frontlines of the pandemic, delivered by volunteers.

The Shelter Island Ambulance Foundation raises funds to support to the volunteer squad that responds to medical emergencies. About 30 residents give freely of their time to aid those in need. They respond 7 days a week, 24 hours, and 365 days a year. Thanks to generous donors, we're able to provide support beyond what's covered in the Town budget. Please donate today!
The Shelter Island Chamber of Commerce is a long standing not-for-profit entity serving the local business community of Shelter Island, New York. Many of our activities and events are designed to attract tourism and visitors to Shelter Island for the benefit of the business community.
SI Fall 5k participants Directory image
Shelter Island Fall 5k that takes place on the 3rd Saturday of October. It was created to help raise funds to benefit woman's cancer and breast health awareness.
Shelter Island Fire Department annual Chicken BBQ
The Shelter Island Fire Department is a volunteer organization that provides emergency fire response to residents of the Town of Shelter Island and Village of Dering Harbor.
Shelter Island Fireworks is a nonprofit entity that raises funds for and coordinates an annual fireworks display at Crescent Beach in honor of Independence Day. The family-friendly event, a tradition of 60+ years on Shelter Island, is usually held the weekend after July 4th.
Shelter Island Lions Club cornhole tournament
The Lions Club motto is “We Serve“, and this simple phrase sums up the central purpose of Lions Clubs everywhere – voluntary service to their community, their nation, and the world. The Shelter Island Lions Club was chartered in 1950 and has remained a strong, vital club for 70 years, with approximately 90 current members.
The Shelter Island Town PBA (Police Benevolent Association) organizes and supports many local youth programs, charities, and worthy causes, thanks to generous donors.

Shelter Island Run Inc. was founded in 1980 to create positive awareness about running and health at our renowned annual 10K road race. Typically about 2,000 runners sign up for the USA Track & Field Certified Course that winds through Shelter Island. The event attracts elite athletes as well as everyday runners and features family-friendly activities.
