Volunteers created the Shelter Island Action Alliance in response to the COVID-19 shutdown as a way to keep our local restaurants afloat while supplying free meals to medical staff on the frontlines of the pandemic. It expanded operations to provide food to seniors on alternating days with the Town of Shelter Island nutrition program, as well as to families in need through the Shelter Island School home-delivered meals program. The brainchild of Brett Surerus and Alex Graham, the Shelter Island Action Alliance also partnered with the Shelter Island Lions Club to provide for Islanders in need. Volunteers are needed to make food deliveries. Donations can be made via Venmo @ShelterIsland-Action-Alliance or by check.
